Public appearances by Fonda have become infrequent since she ended her acting career. One of her more notable recent outings occurred in May 2025, when she and her husband, composer Danny Elfman, were photographed returning to Los Angeles after a trip.
That appearance marked the first time the couple had been seen together publicly in 16 years.
Fonda married Elfman, the former frontman of Oingo Boingo, in 2003. They announced that they were expecting a child the following year and welcomed their son, Oliver, in early 2005.
Her departure from Hollywood allowed her to concentrate on raising Oliver, who is now 21.
When a photographer asked Fonda in 2023 whether she intended to act again, she made it clear that a comeback was not part of her plans. She explained that it was “too nice being a civilian.”

Fonda belongs to one of Hollywood’s best-known acting families. She is the daughter of Peter Fonda, the niece of Jane Fonda and the granddaughter of Henry Fonda.

Her performances placed her among the prominent actresses of her generation, but she ultimately chose to leave the industry rather than continue pursuing roles.

Standing beside her husband
Fonda has remained married to Elfman while he has faced allegations of sexual misconduct, which he has denied.
Composer Nomi Abadi accused Elfman of misconduct said to have occurred between 2015 and 2016. The parties reached an $830,000 settlement, and Abadi later sued him over allegations involving payment and defamation.
A second woman filed accusations against Elfman in 2023, alleging misconduct between 1997 and 2002. His spokesperson rejected those claims in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, describing them as “baseless and absurd.”
Fonda has not returned to acting during these developments and has continued keeping her own public profile limited.
